Flower Arrangement Tips

image imageimage

I love having flowers in my yard.  But, I also love having a bouquet in the house – then when it’s time to come in for the night I can still enjoy the beauty and fragrance of my lovely flowers.  In the North where I live, the flowers outside do not last very many months, so you have to soak up as much of their beauty while you can.

The arrangement on the right are Mothers’ Day flowers from my son and we’re truly gorgeous.  I also like a simple little bouquet that I just brought in from my yard.  Here in NW Indiana, the Peonies are just starting to bloom.  They are so plentiful on the plant that I can cut all I want and still have an abundance of blooms in my yard.

TIPS

  • The florist who supplies our office arrangements gave me a great tip – in your arrangement always use an uneven number of flowers – 3, 5, 7, etc.  I have no idea why, but this makes a nice balanced arrangement.
  • Use a filler (baby’s breath or something similar) to make your arrangement look complete.  I had a few Miss Kim Lilacs still blooming, so I used that to fill in my arrangement on the left.  I love that I had a vase that matches my dishes with pink flowers on it.
  • I looked around the yard to see where to get some branches with green leaves, then decided to keep this simple.  But sometimes just something with green leaves completes your arrangement nicely.
  • Plant a variety of plants that bloom at different times so you have a steady supply of flowers.  I love perennials that keep coming back year-after-year.  They take very little work to maintain.  Tulips and lilacs are early bloomers here; snowball bush comes next, then peonies.
  • If you have flowers in your yard, make yourself a nice little arrangement to enjoy at night before you go to bed and when you first get up in the morning.  Maybe you could take some to a friend.

STOP AND SMELL THE ROSES (AND the other flowers)!
