Chocolate Chip Jar Cookies – A Great Gift

I’ve been “perfecting” my Chocolate Chip Jar Cookie recipe for a few years now.  I was never quite satisfied with the final product of my jar cookie recipe.  After testing and re-testing – a little more or this – a little less of that, I finally came up with a cookie I can be proud to share.  Hope you think so too!

This makes an attractive gift for just about anyone on your list – hostess gift, guest gift, appreciate, co-worker, or just anyone you want to present with a small remembrance.

Here’s what you need:

1 quart jar  (I prefer wide-mouth jars because it’s easier to pour the contents into your mixing bowl from the wide-mouth jar.)

Holiday fabric and ribbon.  (I also found these holiday spatulas during my “after-Christmas shopping” spree last year.)

Tag with directions (see below)

Cookie mix ingredients:

1 1/3 cup all purpose flour

1/2 tsp. baking soda

1/2 tsp. baking powdery

1/4 tsp. cream of tartar (OR 1/4 tsp. corn starch) (I prefer the cream of tartar)

1/2 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. powdered vanilla (optional – as you can add vanilla flavoring in the directions for the baker)

1/3 cup white sugar

1/2 cup, plus 1 TBSP. brown sugar

1/3 cup, plus 1 TBSP. dry oatmeal (any kind will do – but I used old fashioned roll oats)

1 1/3 cup chocolate chips (any kind – milk chocolate, semi-sweet)

  • MIX THE flour, baking soda, baking powder, cream of tartar, salt and powdered vanilla together;
  • LAYER THE flour mixture, white sugar, brown sugar and oatmeal in any order you desire;
  • Layer chocolate chips on top;
  • Secure jar lid.

Using a bowl as a pattern, I cut a 9 inch circle of fabric.  Secure the fabric to the jar lid with a rubber band and then tie it with ribbon or cord.  The rubber bank keeps the fabric in place while you tie the ribbon.

You can use a sticky label directly on the jar or just tie a tag to the ribbon with the directions from the following label.  If you do not use powdered vanilla, don’t forget to add 1/2 tsp. of vanilla to the “Ingredients you will need.”  Cookies 11Here are some pictures of the work in progress.
